Amscot Financial Implements Fiserv’s CheckFreePay Walk-In Bill Payment
(AllPayNews) - Amscot service brings convenient, around-the-clock Progress Energy bill payment option to Floridians
Brookfield, Wis., Aug. 26, 2008 — Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ: FISV), a leading provider of information technology services to the financial industry, today announced that Amscot Financial offers walk-in bill payment using the CheckFreePay Link™ platform. Amscot Financial, a provider of consumer-oriented financial services headquartered in Tampa, Fla., was one of the first companies to implement the CheckFreePay Link platform for its walk-in bill payment service.
“Amscot was searching for a new tool to bring our customers faster bill payment processing,” said Ian MacKechnie, chief executive officer and president of Amscot Financial. “The addition of CheckFreePay allows us to help Floridians make timely walk-in bill payments from our convenient locations across central Florida.”
Available at any of Amscot Financial’s 170 locations, the CheckFreePay Link platform integrates with existing point-of-sale terminals, allowing consumers to pay bills in person, using cash. Consumers can currently use the CheckFreePay service to pay their Progress Energy Florida bills but Amscot Financial intends to make bills from additional companies available for payment in the coming months.
CheckFreePay Link enables agents with multiple locations to streamline the administrative aspects of walk-in bill payment. Agents benefit from simplified end-of-day reconciliation without the need for specialized personnel training on a new system since CheckFreePay Link allows them to accept bill payments utilizing existing point-of-sale terminals. When a consumer makes a payment, the electronic transaction flows quickly and seamlessly from the agent to the billing company via CheckFree’s secure electronic billing and payment network.
Amscot Financial, which offers extended store hours ranging from 12 to 24 hours, provides Progress Energy Florida customers with the opportunity to make their energy bill payments around the clock. Payments made by 5 p.m. will be delivered to the billing company the same day, helping consumers to avoid any late fees or service interruptions. Amscot collects a $1 convenience fee for each payment; no portion of this fee is passed along to Progress Energy.
“Progress Energy is always looking for ways to make bill paying more convenient,” said Willette Morman, director of Florida customer service, Progress Energy. “When it comes to paying their electric bill, our customers now have the ability to use any open Amscot location to walk in, make their bill payment and have it delivered to us quickly. Progress Energy payments made at any Amscot location will be noted on the customer’s account within approximately two hours.”
Using their payment receipt number, customers can verify payment by calling the Progress Energy Voice Response Unit at 1-888-893-9392 and following the instructions.
“Consumers often find themselves making utility payments at the last minute. We find rapid delivery and the ability to verify payment are particularly important for customers, as it can help them to avoid service shut off,” said Paul Harrison, senior vice president and general manager of CheckFreePay, now part of Fiserv. “CheckFreePay allows Amscot Financial to provide convenient walk-in bill payment services that accommodate the schedules of Progress Energy customers.”
CheckFreePay is a leader in the post-paid walk-in bill payment market, processing payments for more than 1,000 billers at more than 12,000 locations nationwide. CheckFreePay agents include convenience stores, grocery stores, drug stores, retail shipping and postal stores.
