VimpelCom, Alfa Bank, VISA team up for mobile banking card terminals

MOSCOW, Oct 13 ( -- Russia's second largest mobile operator VimpelCom, privately owned Alfa Bank and VISA International teamed up to install mobile banking card terminals in taxi cars, the three said in a joint press release Friday.

Wireless card payment terminals were installed in all of 150 cars operated by Moscow-based Renault-Taxi and will be introduced starting next week.

The terminals ensure payment data transfer via GPRS modems operating in VimpelCom's network, the companies said.

VimpelCom provides mobile services to over 52 million users in Russia and some countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
